National Moth Night 7 June 2008
This
evening we set up three moth traps in Littlewood after which we went for a short
bat walk with our detectors. The weather was excellent and we were still able
to see at 11pm when we left for home. The next morning a group of us inpected
the catch which was lower than normal with only about 18 species (allowing for
the ones which escaped before we were able to identify them)!
Highlights were
a Lime Hawkmoth, Gold Spot, Peach Blossom, Burnished Brass and an Ingrailed Clay.

What is an Owl - A presentation by Chris Sperring MBE (27 February 2008)
Chris gave a most interesting and energetic presentation to a packed audience at Yatton Methodist Church Hall. He displayed many excellent photographs backed up with lots of information explaining why it was so important for groups such as YACWAG to continue to provide rough grassland areas which encourage wildlife such as short tailed voles to thrive. This provides the ideal food for owls - proven by the successful breeding of Barn Owls on our Congresbury Moor Reserve.
At
the end of the talk Chris brought in his Barn Owl which was a great hit with the
audience.

Visits Yatton Junior School (21 January 2008)
Chris Sperring MBE visited Year 3 pupils at Yatton Junior School to talk about owls. All present were enthralled to get so close to a barn owl!
This visit followed on from a trip the pupils made to YACWAG's Stowey Reserve in the Autumn of 2007.
